Be Memorable! 5 Tips on How to Get Prospects and Partners to Remember You

Anyone can show up to a networking event in hopes of adding to their growing network, but it takes a more concerted effort than simply attending to truly stand out. How can you ensure new prospects or partners remember you after an initial meeting?

STICK TO YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

Just as each company has its own identity, each individual has their own personal brand. When meeting new potential partners or building connections at your next networking event, be sure to tap into your personal brand to make positive first impressions and genuine connections. There are many things that may make you unique and memorable. Perhaps you embody a cheerful, energetic state of mind that others remember you by. Maybe your strong handshake and attentiveness sticks with people.

It’s great to embody those things that make you unique, but there are a few characteristics, skills, and tips that everyone should focus on improving in the interest of making lasting impressions:

HAVING A GREAT ELEVATOR SPEECH

Part of building a strong personal brand is the ability to effectively communicate your greatest strengths and talents. Make sure you can relay critical information such as what your business does and how you help your existing clients. Using short stories and case studies is always a good way to show how you bring value.  Practice this with your friends and colleagues so they can give you feedback.

A GIVE TO GET MENTALITY

You probably hear me talk about this a lot.  I’m a huge believer in the give-to-get mentality and I know the best business developers feel the same way.  Always lead with listening, be interested in their business, ask questions.  In particular, ask prospects & partners how you can help them whether it’s an introduction, information, or an invite to an upcoming event. Taking the time to gauge their unique needs will encourage them to keep you in mind in the future. And don’t forget to follow through with your promises!

STRONG BODY LANGUAGE

You’ve worked hard to get your business to where it is today, and you can display pride in that with your body language. Good posture, strong eye contact, and active listening skills can truly set you apart, so be sure to make them a focus. If you are introverted, that is completely acceptable. It is possible to embody introversion with pride and make meaningful connections.

FOLLOW UP ON LINKEDIN

After meeting new potential connections in-person, you should always be sure to follow up by connecting on LinkedIn. For best results, be sure to do so within 24 hours of your initial meeting. That way, your proactiveness is established and the new connection has a fresh recollection of your recent conversation.  And don’t just connect…leave a note and refer to your conversation with them.  Remember, you want to be remembered!
